Building a Windows 2008 MOSS Environment?  Dont forget your SlipStreamed Installer
Ok so to clarrify a bit on the title, in order to implement Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a new Windows Server 2008 Environment a  requirement is SP1.  Microsoft doesnt provide this installer (YET) but fortunitly the steps are pretty easy.

In this short ScreenCast  I will show you the steps needed to build this installer.  Note that I build this using PowerShell but the same procedure can be done via your old fashioned :)  Cmd.exe... Im on a PS kick these days so i am forcing myself to use that shell exclusivly.

My buddy Ben Curry wrote a decent step by step on this but me being the visual type I felt it was time to break out the Camtasia Studio again.   One other thing to add is the fact that this doesnt just pertain to installing onto Windows Server 2008... this method can also be used for Windows 2003.  The basic idea is you have a new install and want to get as much done at one time as possible... instead of doing your install and circling around afterwards to install the updates.

What I dont show in this demo is the install process... basically its all done behind the scenes....if you have installed MOSS in the past it may seem like its going a bit longer.... you will also notice that is because it stops on the Updating folder and then installs in one sweep.  The folder I created called MOSSlip is the folder that now contains the excecutable to build your install so run from there.  The other 2 folders  OSSlip and WSSlip are not needed so you can safely remove them.

NOTE:  Some have in the past had trouble opening WMV files and were prompted for creds..... you can simply download the wmv file from my Video's Folder on the front page and play it on your desktop.   I will be uploading this to boobtube shortly so it will also play in the SilverLight App on my homepage.
How to Screencast:  Setting up your Virtual Lab Part 1

This is a lab that I have been meaning to put out for quite some time. This is part 1 of a 2 part series that will demonstrate setting up your labs.

In this Demo I will demonstrate the setting up of Active Directory, SQL Server, POP3 Mail Service and IIS. This is a session that will form as your backbone install. All the necessary components will be covered and shown in the demo.

I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more screencasts.

How To Demo: Personalization Site Links and Audiences

In this demonstration I am going to explain what Personalization Site links are and how to create an audience to use this feature. This is from what I am seeing a hidden gem of a feature in MOSS 2007. Having the ability to target links to groups or audiences in their MySite's is very powerful. I hope you agree.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more.

Managed Paths Screencast

Ive been pondering over screencasts for a while now…. With the books and everything else that goes on in life I put it on the back burner. Well something lit a fire under my arse this week… Either way, this is first in a series of screencasts that I am going to do that deal primarily on the Administration of MOSS 2007.

First off you have to excuse my poor editing. Although im using an incredible product called Camtasia I haven't gotten around to reading all the how to stuff….. as Simser tells me RTFM (you can figure out what that means)

Anyway as I mentioned this is the first in a series. I will cover everything from Creating Web Applications, Configuring Host Headers and DNS, AD, SQL work…. Basically Im going to try and cover everything that a Sharepoint Admin should know and have a hand in… or at least be aware of the other things that our job requires us to know.

Managed Paths Demo (if you have any difficulty opening this you can simply save it to your desktop)

If you have any suggestions you would like me to cover…please feel free to drop me a line.

Cheers

A Quickie Demo  SP Admin Desktop Shortcuts

Ok for a lot of you this is a no brainer and already being practiced but im sure there are a few that are yet to get up to speed with certain shortcuts we can create to make our admin life easier. Im taking a small break from my normal Screencasts I have been doing to give a quick breakout session on desktop shortcuts I always create in my environments. Hope this helps some of you out there.

How To Screencast: Alternate Access Mappings or AAM

In this Screencast I am going to present 2 topics that merge into one. Alternate Access Mappings and for this demo we are also looking at the creation of an Extranet site. AAM is one of those subjects that has seen a lot of attention in Newsgroups, Forums and PSS calls to Microsoft. I believe that seeing it in action is sometimes easier than simply reading about the subject which is why I have attempted to accurately provide an easy to follow example on how AAM works and how we configure it.

If you would rather read up on the subject I highly recommend you pay a visit to the following sites.

Troy Starr(MSFT), Adam Buenz(MVP) and Todd Klindt(MVP) All three published excellent posts on the subject and Troy and Adam took it fairly deep. Very good reading.

If you're the visual type like I am then sit back and enjoy.
